Shane Mac is the co-founder of m2volt, a web development and media company devoted to creating an online presence for businesses and non-profits. He writes tips, tools, and ideas for doing business in the online world on the company blog.
Also, he is the founder of thesquab.com. A blog and podcast that is all about asking the tough questions to help people build better careers. He is just a guy passionate about helping people discover a path that they might not have known existed. In the end, careers are about discovering and connecting with the right people or as he calls it, "True Networking."
With that, he spends time speaking at colleges and universities where he talks about the tough career questions that are often overlooked. He is passionate, real, spontaneous, and will not leave until every question is answered. Life is about asking questions and he is a true believer that no two people have the same career situation's so general career advice usually doesn't help all that much. In his eyes it is not a speech rather a conversation where he strives to give advice and inspire ideas that challenge students rather than repeat all of the general career advice we usually hear. In his college days he says he can't remember a single speaker, let alone staying {re}connected with them, and he won't be that guy.
Before starting m2volt and thesquab.com, Shane began playing music for promotional events and weddings as a one man show where he landed a sponsorship with Miller Lite. He still performs weddings and concerts in Seattle and around the midwest. He has recently started recording new original music which he plans to have available by May 2010 with live show dates to follow. Check out his upcoming events, music, wedding info, and latest news at mac-live.com. He was recently picked as the #1 DJ, Band & Musician of 2009 in the state of Washington. Check out the award here.
After playing a live online concert for St. Jude and raising over $400 in 30 minutes, Shane found a passion for helping non-profit organizations leverage Social Media. He is currently an Online Marketing Consultant for Give Your Sole, a non-profit focused on providing shoes to those in need that are collected at race events across the country. He has currently raised over $1000 for charity: water to build a well in Africa simply by asking people on twitter to skip their coffee for a day.
Shane is currently writing an ebook with 50 other people ranging from CEO's, VP's, and Entrepreneurs, to recent college graduates who are all striving to answer one question, "If I would have known just one thing." Each contributor will be writing the one most important piece of advice that they believe can help others with life and careers. The book will be free and is planned to be available in March 2010.
Shane spends his days working at The Cobalt Group where he is a Project Manager and Social Media Ambassador focused on helping dealers and auto manufacturers leverage Social Media and Online Advertising. He is also focused on landing page testing, analytics, and scalability across a network of over 8000 dealer websites. He works with many of the top tier auto brands such as GM, Lexus, VW, and Hyundai. He was recently nominated for the 'Rock Star' award which you can read here.
Shane attended Western Illinois University where he received his Bachelor's of Business in Finance and Economics. An analytical mind with a creative sense who loves talking with people is a way to put it. Don't worry, he made the Dean's list a few times.
